A graduate of Iowa State College in 1890, Musser established one of the nation’s leading Hereford herds on his Hillandale Farm. He was a director and president of the American Hereford Association in the 1930s.

Musser established the Iowa State College Agricultural Foundation in 1937, to fund demonstration farms throughout the state. Upon his death in 1956, charitable bequests from his estate were provided to dozens of institutions and organizations in his community of Muscatine.
