John W. Groves | Inducted by 1920

Credited with improving the efficiency of the registry records at the Pure Bred Live Stock Records at the Union Stock Yards.

Impact & Accomplishments


Born in Williamsville, Illinois, John Groves tried his hand in the livestock commission business in Chicago for a few years, and then returned to his home in Sangamon County, to manage several farms and to buy and ship market stock.


He moved back to Chicago as secretary of the American Shorthorn Breeders Association from 1901 until his death in 1912, operating out of the new Pure Bred Live Stock Record Building at Union Stock Yards. Groves was credited with improving the efficiency of the registry records.
