Born in Kingston, Ohio, Renick Dunlap graduated from Ohio State University in 1895.
He served in the Ohio Senate from 1903 to 1905, and then became the state’s Dairy and Food Commissioner. From 1914 to 1916, he was the Ohio Secretary of Agriculture.
Dunlap held the position of assistant secretary in the U. S. Department of Agriculture from 1925 to 1932.
Upon his retirement, he returned to farming in Ohio.

Dunlap excelled at football while at the Ohio State University. He was named team captain for the 1895 Buckeyes squad.
